Salsa

Salsa

The term salsa connotes the spicy and hot "sauces" of the Cubans and Latinos, specially the Puerto Ricans. The dance had its origin from the Cuban son, cha cha cha and mambo. Immigrants brought the dance to the States appearing in New York and Miami. Dance primarily in 4/4 music, the dance can not be traced to just one particular origin.

Due to poor documentation, the exact origin of the dance is unknown. Some report say the dance was widely popular amongst the working class in Buenos Aires. The dance then was banned in Argentina and re-appeared in salons in France, where the British dance teachers coded the dance into learning patterns. The dance itself has different versions depending on the music being played.

Hustle

Hustle

Disco reached its height in popularity with the Saturday Night Fever movie. Some people blame disco as the one that killed ballroom or partner dancing because disco can be danced and interpreted alone. Hustle, which is danced in disco music is the attempt to incorporate partner dancing into the genre.
