As wiht all modern ballroom dances, waltz is a progressive dance done in closed hold position. | ![]() FoxtrotPopularized by Vernon Castle, the current version of the dance is characterized by long and flowing strides across the floor. Originally danced in ragtime music, the dance has evolved into its current version with the emergence of rock and roll music. The foxtrot then split into two styles - the slow foxtrot and the quickstep. This dance has similarities with waltz but danced instead to 4/4 time. | ![]() TangoThe partner dance that branched away from its Argentine roots. This dance has allowed European, American and Hollywood influences define its current style and execution. Danced in 4/4 time with music set between 31-33 bars per minute. |

It is associated to the annual balls in Vienna. The competitive style is danced in 180 beats per minute. |
